About the workshop

This workshop is dedicated to teaching contemporary Islam. Applications are welcome
from faculty at all stages of their career, coming from various disciplines and specialties
in humanities and social sciences.
The workshop addresses pedagogical approaches and techniques in teaching various
topics in contemporary Islam. These may include, but are not limited to, teaching
scriptures, Islamic law, history, social and political issues, theology, and gender.
Workshop faculty will present successful teaching strategies in their respective field and
lead the discussion on topics related to teaching contemporary Islam. Participants will
share their approaches to teaching and pedagogy, engage in creative syllabus
development, and deliberate on teaching complex issues, such as Palestine or violence.

Applicant pre-requisites
1) Must have attained a PhD
2) Must primarily specialize in and teach Islam and/or Muslim societies
3) Must come from North America

We invite applications from faculty in a variety of humanities and social sciences, at any
stage in their careers, including newly awarded PhDs.

Travel and accommodation
CICW will cover travel costs (up to $500) and provide a two-night stay at a local hotel.
The participants must arrive on August 6, 2024, and may leave in the evening on
August 8, 2024.
